First, we need to make a distinction regarding emails we receive from reputable, reliable Christian sources alerting us to things going on related to moral/ethical issues which we need to consider. 

Prosperity theology teaches that God will bless with material abundance and good health those who obey him and lay claim to his promises. “We don’t have to wait for God’s blessing in the life to come,” it promises. “He’ll send it to us here and now.”

I want to be ready to meet my Lord, and I want to help others get ready. That’s why so many of my books emphasize the realities of heaven and hell.

First, to realize it will not be as easy as you’re thinking. To do it well will require a great deal of work and experience and feedback in developing a God-given talent—assuming God has given you that talent or aptitude in the first place, which is a BIG assumption.

 Many people blame God for natural disasters. “How could he allow this?” they ask. But what if the Architect and Builder crafted a beautiful and perfect home for Earth’s inhabitants, who despite his warnings carelessly cracked its foundation, punched holes in the walls, and trashed the house? Why blame the builder when the occupants took a sledgehammer to their own home?

My heart goes out to you. One reason is because I can identify with some of what you’re going through. Earlier in my life I struggled with being overwhelmed by feelings.

I highly recommend David Augsburger’s The Freedom of Forgiveness. Also, Philip Yancy’s What’s So Amazing about Grace?, which shows us how God’s forgiveness of us should result in our forgiveness of others.

The greatest sorrow is not being able to forgive yourself. You say you feel worse now than ever. That is because you are carrying a load you were never intended to carry.

This passage demonstrates what is often true—if we misunderstand one biblical doctrine, we will inevitably misunderstand others. 

Question from a reader: In your book, Safely Home, you talk about the persecution of Christians in China. I have a friend who visited China and went to a church where the Christians had Bibles and were free to worship. Can you explain this?
