I would recommend James Scott Bell (courtroom stuff—think John Grisham) and Al Gansky (high-tech adventure—think Tom Clancy).

Recently I was asked to recommend some books for a pastor in his twenties to read. Most of these books can be purchased from a Christian bookstore or ordered from www.christianbook.com.

I came to Christ in a church that was Arminian, so that was naturally my early leaning. I went to a Bible college and seminary that were both middle of the road where neither hard core Calvinism nor Arminianism often surfaced in class, though on a continuum, some faculty would lean more toward one than the other.

In May, Nanci and I spent three days with Joe Gibbs in Charlotte, North Carolina related to a book in which he asked me to write a chapter about Heaven (Game Plan for Life: A Champion's Guide to a Successful Life, coming out tomorrow, July 21). I did some filming and speaking in chapel at Joe Gibbs Racing (450 employees, 240,000 square feet of building).  

Scott Klusendorf's new book, The Case for Life: Equipping Christians to Engage the Culture, releases today. After I was sent the prepub manuscript of this book, and asked to endorse it, I wrote, “Scott Klusendorf has produced a marvelous resource that will equip pro-lifers to communicate more creatively and effectively as they engage our culture."  

Some people really enjoy study Bibles. I've thought they were okay, but have never gotten into them. Some time before it was published last October, I was asked to look over the ESV Study Bible, Hardcover, with the possibility of endorsing it.

Some of you prayed a while back for work I was doing for a chapter in a book with Joe Gibbs. Some information about that book has been sent to us, so I wanted to pass it on. 

The Gospel of John may be my favorite Bible movie of all-time. It came in under the radar, and many people still haven't heard of it, much less seen it. Yet it's in many ways the most endearing and personal portrayal of Jesus, and above all its faithful to the text of Scripture. It combines narration with dialogue and action.

I think of how God had his hand on my life long before I was in high school, when I read for the first time a book that really captivated me...the Bible. That Book came alive to me when I met the Author, who soon became my best friend. Can't wait for all the adventures He has awaiting us, His children, in the new universe.

Books and bookstores have had an enormous influence on my own life. I came to Christ as a teenager, at Powell Valley Covenant Church in Gresham, less than a mile from where I live now. My first youth pastor, Paul Siwick, did me a huge favor—he gave me a key to his office, so I could go in any time and read his books, hundreds of them. I read everything I could get my hands on.

A brand new book has just been released (April 15), one that I highly recommend to all young people. And middle aged people. And old people.  

There’s a lot of abortion “discussion” among activists—combative rants where the participants talk at each other.  Do they listen?  Only enough to construct their next volley.
