The movie The Shack, based on the novel with the same title by Paul Young, released March 3. By now you have likely seen previews of it, attended a showing, or at least heard about the movie. In what I share below, I’m not speaking about the movie, which I haven’t seen, but only the book. Though if the movie is faithful to the book, I would expect it to have some of the same strengths and weaknesses.

Nanci and I have been using VidAngel for a few months. It’s been amazing, by our choice in checking off some boxes and not others, to mute blasphemy and the f-word and skip sexually explicit scenes in every movie we watch. 

I’m excited to share about a new graphic novel version of the Bible that’s now available, called The Kingstone Bible. It’s released by my friends at Kingstone Media, a publisher dedicated to producing quality graphic novels that are biblically sound and Christ-centered.

Several months ago, when I was sent links to large portions of this Bible, I was immediately captivated by it. I was walking with friends of ours in the raw grief of their tragedy, and I found myself reading the Beyond Suffering Bible not only through my eyes but also theirs.

David has a new book that I think will benefit many. Good and Angry: Redeeming Anger, Irritation, Complaining, and Bitterness is a remarkably penetrating treatment of a vital but neglected subject. I kept underlining profound statements, including “Anger is not an it…anger does not happen to you…the whole person does anger.”

The Gospel of John is one of my favorite movies on the life and words of Jesus. Most movies draw predominantly from Matthew, Mark and Luke, while this one comes across differently because of the unique content of John’s Gospel. 

I don’t keep books on my nightstand, but I have two equivalents: a book table by the living room recliner, and another by my office chair. Here’s what’s on them, besides the Bible.
