Does studying God—and doctrine—have to be a dull discipline, or can it be an exhilarating exercise that transforms your life? I believe that theology is the foundation upon which worldview is built.

I recently read an interesting article by David Brooks, at The New York Times website. What follows is an excerpt:

Today's blog is a combination of several short answers to questions I've responded to lately. Some are questions I've received on my Facebook page.

Perhaps my favorite is one that flies under the radar because they devote so little to fundraising, and focus all on hands-on ministry: Action International, based in the Seattle area.

www.Abort73.com Spend half an hour poking around this website and I think you’ll be amazed at how thoughtfully done and effective it is.

Includes alternatives to AARP, the March of Dimes, and the National Education Association.

These studies say nothing about the COC (BCP) about which Randy Alcorn and I have written. They speak only to Emergency Birth Control (euphemistically called Emergency Contraception).

Question from a reader: I've spoken to many long-term missionaries who have surprised me with their opinion about the effectiveness of short-term missions.  We spend a tremendous amount of money on “missionary tourism” in America, often to the detriment of long-term support.  What are your thoughts on short-term missions?

This month's giveaway is a double feature: three randomly-drawn winners will receive a fiction book of their choice, and a fiction book of their choice to give as an outreach or share with a friend!

Let me start with what Heaven won’t be: boring. It is not a place where we will be ghosts or angels endlessly floating around on clouds, strumming harps, and wishing we’d brought a magazine.

Question from a reader: My husband is in the military and we will be attending the base chapel.  I understand we should tithe to our local church but the military pays for the chapel's needs and salaries so I am wondering where we should send our tithe money? Some of our military friends send it to non-profit organizations such as Campus Crusade or Cadence International.

I respect friends who hold to the gap theory and day age and the variants, and appreciate their insistence on inspiration. Yet when I listen to Hugh Ross and others, including Walter Kaiser, I’m still left feeling it’s obvious that no one would ever have come up with such interpretations except to solve a problem. And how many problems of one era disappeared on their own, only to leave believers with a strange biblical interpretation the text doesn’t and never did support?

Best-selling author Randy Alcorn tackles the topic of suffering in his new book, If God Is Good. He attempts to explain why God, if He is indeed good, allows people to suffer. Understandably, Alcorn takes his time to dig deeply into the subject, delivering a book of more than 500 pages. We recently spoke with the author, who also directs Eternal Perspective Ministries, about his view of suffering and what the subject reveals about God.

What follows is a spot-on article by Kevin DeYoung, a pastor and writer. While it was written after the flap about Brit Hume, making that aspect of it dated, it is timeless at its core, and I just “happened” upon it (in the providence of God).
