Success is measured differently in the eyes of God. For sure what He values most is not what people call success, but what God Himself calls faithfulness: “Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful” (1 Corinthians 4:2).

If you are working a “secular” job, you are not second class in God’s Kingdom. You are no less called or gifted than a pastor or a missionary. Your ministry is to represent Jesus in your own sphere of influence.

Once you’ve accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, being ready to meet the Lord means living in a way that pleases Him so that whenever He calls you home—and knowing that could be any time—you can hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” 

This day—like every other day—belongs to God, not me. So, if God determines that I should spend time contending with the unexpected, that’s completely up to Him. He knows best. He’s the master, I’m His servant. I have trusted Him with my eternal life, and I will trust Him with my life today.
