In this clip from a conversation at the 2024 illumiNations conference, Randy shares his perspective about the deterioration of our bodies on this present earth, and the hope we have that the best is yet to come.

At the IllumiNations conference in 2024, Bobby Gruenewald (founder of the YouVersion Bible app) moderated a conversation between Randy Alcorn,  who wrote a book about Heaven, and astronaut Shane Kimbrough, who has been to the heavens. They talk about the New Earth, the view from space, and more.

I’m all for recovery from addictions and things that help us in that regard. I’m talking about the things religions do that call people to never-ending self-reform.

As Trevin Wax points out in this wise article, disappointing people is simply part of life. There’s humility in accepting criticism, but there’s also humility in accepting that you will never be able to please everyone.  

There is nothing that Satan wants more than to see God’s people pressed down, burdened with shame, and stuck living with regrets. Paul encouraged us not to be “unaware of his schemes” (2 Corinthians 2:11). Satan doesn’t want us to be effective for God’s Kingdom in the present, right now, because we are always looking back.

May we remember that the ordinary, daily, and mundane acts of faithfulness and kindness that no one else knows are well-known by God. He is watching. He is keeping track.

Randy writes, “The closer the relationship the greater the danger. The longer you allow a relationship to go on with a nonbeliever, the more cloudy your judgment will become and the more likely you will commit immorality and turn your back on the Lord in other ways.”

As Christians we should affirm God’s miracles. This does not mean we should believe that everything claimed to be a miracle really is one.

Even “clean” romance books could be wrong for some people to read if they are drawing our hearts away from Christ and creating unhealthy dynamics in marriage. Only God has the ability to see into your heart to know whether what you are reading, and the effects on your heart, are sinful or not.

Randy explains how looking forward to life on the New Earth shapes how we view this present life under the curse.
