In this episode of the Revive Our Hearts podcast with Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth, Randy Alcorn reminds us that we manage someone else’s finances – God’s! Understanding this is vital to joyful giving.

Randy Alcorn spoke with Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth on the Revive Our Hearts podcast. They had a four part conversation about the secret of joyful giving.

The key to a right use of money and possessions is a right perspective—an eternal perspective. Each of our lives is positioned like a bow, drawn across the strings of a cosmic violin, producing vibrations that resound for all eternity. 

Without a vision for giving as investing in eternity—and a sense that God’s purpose for prospering us is so we can help the church, aid the poor, and reach the lost—inheriting wealth could be a curse rather than a blessing.

I was on the Faith & Finance podcast with Rob West, talking about giving guidelines to fight materialism. 

Randy had a conversation with Rob West on the FaithFi podcast. They discussed the idolatry of materialism, cultivating a habit of giving, and some guidelines for giving from the New Testament.  In this clip from their conversation, Randy shares a vital reminder about stewardship. 

If we understand what Scripture says about giving, we’ll realize there’s no greater privilege than to live lives of overflowing love and joyful generosity. It’s a no-brainer.

Randy and Nanci Alcorn have had a long relationship with Operation Mobilization (and their ship Logos Hope). After Nanci went to be with Jesus, OM wanted to honor her influence on the ministry by renaming the library on board Logos Hope, “The Nanci Alcorn Memorial Library.” Randy was unable to visit the ship for the dedication this October, but his daughters Karina and Angela traveled to Tanzania to witness firsthand their mom being honored by one of her favorite ministries.

One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is freedom from materialism. How? By teaching them to be generous givers who know everything belongs not to them, but to God. 

Any lifestyle that doesn’t align with God’s priorities and won’t hold up after death is not a good one—no matter how glamorous or appealing or sensible it seems at the time.

Grasping God’s ownership of everything is the foundation of a biblical theology of money. Faithful money-managing stewards act in the owner’s interests, regularly consulting Him to understand and implement His investment priorities.

Your question about whether Christians should donate to political campaigns is an interesting one. I don’t think there’s a clear “yes” or “no” answer, as this seems to come down to wisdom and asking the Lord for direction.
