Many people, including many readers of this blog, are facing some level of financial uncertainty right now because of the coronavirus crisis. These are challenging times, and you may find yourself worrying, and wondering what the future might hold. 

In 2020, Randy gave a message for the Kingdom Advisors 2020 Annual Conference on 1 Timothy 6.

Tom Hsieh worked for a successful network and communications provider, and he later became CEO and co-owner of a telecom consulting firm. Tom and his wife, Bree, chose to live in Pomona, California, then the fourth-largest city in LA County—and the second poorest. They decided to live at or below the median household income there in order to fit in with the neighbors they wanted to reach. 

Attempting to experience the abundant life Jesus spoke of while burying ourselves in material abundance isn’t just difficult; it’s impossible. That’s not because material things are inherently bad. It’s because accumulated stuff suffocates us, crushes us, and blocks us from Jesus.

God created us to love people and use things, but materialists love things and use people. Materialism drives not just the “bad apples” of society; it drives “the best and the brightest,” those from the finest homes and schools, those who become government and business leaders, physicians, and attorneys.

In 2019 Randy Alcorn was interviewed the topic of giving and Heaven at a Soar Detroit event. In this clip, he talks about what motivated him to write his book Heaven and the good and bad news about money. 

I wrote my book Giving Is the Good Life because I wanted to clarify what Scripture actually says about how we can experience the abundant life Jesus came to give us. And the answer from God’s Word is so beautiful and hope-giving!

We instinctively imagine that spending on ourselves will make us happiest. But our greatest joy actually comes when we give to others. It really is true what Jesus said: “There is more happiness in giving than in receiving” (Acts 20:35, GNT).
