Today is the 33rd anniversary of the death of my childhood best friend, Jerry. In God’s providence, earlier this summer I ran across my 2007 blog about him. I’m reposting it in honor of my friend, and in the hope that readers will find this tribute to friendship to be encouraging. 

This Wednesday, October 8, is the 44th anniversary of the death of my precious mother, Lucille Vivian Tovrea Alcorn. Hardly a day goes by where I don’t think of her and thank God for her.

I realize not everyone gets the chance to have a final gathering with their family. But I do encourage anyone who has a terminal illness to use your remaining time to have God-honoring interactions with your loved ones and say whatever needs to be said while you still can. 

For 35 years, Randy Alcorn, the founder and director of Eternal Perspective Ministries (EPM), has largely focused his research and studies on the concept of a “greater life to come.” 

Our grandson Jake got married to Richie in Phoenix on June 20, the first of our five grandsons to get married. Getting to know Richie, and gaining a granddaughter has been delightful! Their wedding was beautiful and wonderful.

Tomorrow, May 31, is Nanci’s and my 50th wedding anniversary. I thank God for His faithfulness and the time we had together.  I will not regret the years we might have had but be profoundly grateful for the years we did have—and not just the quantity, but the quality.

Randy shares how he has seen Romans 8:28 at work in Nanci’s life and legacy, and how different that is than the health and wealth gospel. 

I wasn’t raised in a Christian home. No one in our family attended church or understood the meaning of the Son of God’s incarnation and redemption. Yet, somehow, my mom embodied Christmas.

When I came to Christ as a high schooler in 1969, I read Foxe's Book of Martyrs, Richard Wurmbrand's Tortured for Christ, and Brother Andrew's God's Smuggler.

Randy was interviewed by Mike Linch on his podcast Linch with a Leader. They discuss Randy’s background and journey to faith. They then dive into the question everyone has, “What will Heaven really be like?”  Randy answers some of the deepest questions on what is waiting for believers in eternity.

In this clip from his interview with Mike Linch, Randy shares how the experience of watching his father come to Christ impressed upon him that conversion is always a miracle of grace. 

On June 23, Randy is turning 70. In light of this significant birthday, some of the Eternal Perspective Ministries staff and board wanted to honor him by sharing how he’s pointed us to Jesus. We hope that by sharing how his life has helped us grow in our walk with God, it will be clear that the Lord has used Randy as a conduit of His grace.
