When we die we go to be with Christ (II Cor. 5:8) which is wonderful. But we are still incomplete, in a pre-resurrected state, anticipating Christ’s return to earth, and our resurrections. The place we’ll live forever will be where God comes down to dwell with us, on the New Earth (Revelation 21:1-3).

Question from a reader: Many people have questions regarding Heaven. How can you be sure that this depiction of Heaven [in your book Heaven] is the correct one?

If you’ve ever spent a leisurely day on a golden beach or sailed across the vast ocean or observed the beauty of God’s underwater creatures, you may be surprised that John, taken in a vision to the far future, says that on the New Earth “the sea was no more.”

 Jesus is preparing a place for us. He’s the ultimate Carpenter.

I am leading a group studying Heaven, and I really want to get people excited about studying it. Do you have any suggestions of questions I could ask the group to encourage conversation and get people thinking about Heaven?

I spent a few hours with Carol King (see picture), who was dying of cancer. She joked that imminent death had changed her shopping habits.

It’s common to hear people say, “We don’t understand now, but in Heaven we’ll know everything.” One writer says that people in Heaven can “easily comprehend divine mysteries. Is this true? Will we really know everything in Heaven?

Can we really know in advance where we’re going when we die? The apostle John, the same one who wrote about the new heavens and New Earth, said in one of his letters, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:13, emphasis added). 

I have read most of Randy Alcorn’s books. But Edge of Eternity was one of the few fiction books that changed my life. Even twelve years after reading it the first time, it still impacts me. — J. O.
