If we take God’s Word seriously, we should avoid debt when we can, since “the borrower is servant to the lender” (Proverbs 22:7, NLT). And since Jesus tells us we cannot serve both God and money, we should ask ourselves, before undertaking any debt, How will this affect my capacity to give generously?

Deuda es gastar el dinero que no tenemos. Entonces, ¿no es una muestra nuestra decisión de entrar en una deuda de que creemos que necesitamos más de lo que Dios nos ha dado?

La dette nous permet de dépenser de l'argent que nous n'avons pas. Donc en nous endettant, ne montrons-nous pas que nous avons besoin de plus que ce que Dieu nous accorde?

Why do I receive mailings telling me that $5,000 or $10,000 or $20,000 has already been approved for me and to receive it I need only send in the enclosed agreement? Why do banks and credit companies beg me to borrow from them, listing dozens of ways I could use the money? Why are people so anxious to lend me money? The answer is simple—they want me to borrow because they will make a lot of money from my debt.

Através do endividamento, gastamos dinheiro que não temos. Portanto, nossa decisão de contrair dívidas não seria uma prova de que cremos que necessitamos de mais, além daquilo que Deus nos deu? 

Some financial counselors put home mortgages in a different category from other debts. One reason is that the loan is secured by the house’s equity. A case can certainly be made for borrowing to buy a reasonably priced house instead of renting.

Debt spends money we don’t have. So isn’t our decision to go into debt proof that we believe we need more than God has given us?

The question isn’t, “Why not go into debt?” but why? Unless the answer is extraordinarily convincing, we shouldn’t do it. 

The ancient book of Proverbs applies directly to our use of credit cards: “A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences” (Proverbs 22:3).
