In response to my blog post Is It Judgmental and Unloving to Believe That Abortion Is Child-Killing?, a reader shared this touching true story.

If we believe the scientific fact that life begins at conception and an unborn child is just as precious as an older child—but at an earlier stage of development, smaller, and hidden away in her mother’s womb—then we understand that ending that child’s life is just as unthinkable and inhumane. Both the woman and her unborn child are worthy of protection.

To many people, Jesus’ words “Do not judge” mean never questioning someone’s choice of abortion, and love and compassion mean never trying to deter someone from considering abortion. In fact, many consider it “judgmental” even to say abortion is wrong. 

I’m excited to introduce my book Pro-Choice or Pro-Life: Examining 15 Pro-Choice Claims—What Do Facts & Common Sense Tell Us? It tackles the predominant pro-choice claims head-on but does so in a thoughtful and non-aggressive way in order to reach pro-life and at least some pro-choice readers. This book is carefully written and edited, and I believe is a high-quality pro-life resource.

Sadly, this argument is used to say, “You have no right to say anything about unborn children.” That’s simply not true. 

I believe God has raised Ben Watson up to be a spokesman for two causes very close to the heart of God that are also two of the most controversial and important issues in American life: pro-life justice and racial justice. His strong and heartfelt pro-life commitment has driven him and his wife Kirsten to make a powerful new film called “Divided Hearts of America.”

We don’t believe it’s permissible or right to eliminate people to prevent their possible future suffering. That is a false empathy.

Numbers 5:11–3 1 is an unusual passage of Scripture used to make a central argument in A Prochoice Bible Study, published by Episcopalians for Religious Freedom. They cite the New English Bible’s peculiar translation which makes it sound as if God brings a miscarriage on a woman if she is unfaithful to her husband.
