Question from a reader:
I was asked today by a family member what I thought about deconstructing your faith. Has Randy posted anything on this topic?
Answer from Stephanie Anderson, EPM staff:
Randy has shared a few articles related to that topic. You can see some of them here.
He writes, “When we contemplate what feels like an avalanche of Christians declaring—whether through their actions or words or both—their loss of faith in Jesus and God’s Word, we should realize that for every leader who loudly denies Christ there are thousands of less well-known Christians who are doing the same.
“If I could share just one message in light of the high-profile Christians who have recently made public announcements renouncing their faith, it would be this: you should lose your faith…if it is in anyone other than Jesus. And you should forsake and reject any worldview, no matter how attractive and seductive and popular and affirming, that is not in concert with the worldview of God’s Word.
“It’s the age of deconversion. First Peter 5:8 says, ‘Be sober minded, be watchful. Your adversary the devil is going around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.’”
Randy recommends Alisa Childers’s book Another Gospel? A Lifelong Christian Seeks Truth in Response to Progressive Christianity. And here’s another book from The Gospel Coalition: Before You Lose Your Faith: Deconstructing Doubt in the Church.
Sean McDowell and Alisa Childers have addressed deconstruction on their podcasts, both of which Randy recommends. Here’s another resource from Desiring God’s Jon Bloom that may be helpful.
God bless you as you seek to discover and share truth, with grace, about this matter.
