One of the most frequent questions I get asked on my Facebook page is, “Will there be another Ollie Chandler story, a follow up to Deception?” People want to know what happened to Ollie and if he ever came to know the Lord.
Though publishers and readers have asked me to, I’ve never in my previous novels thought that I wanted to go back and use the main characters again in a subsequent book. I know it would be easier in some ways, but I’ve felt like each person gets one book on center stage. Ollie Chandler is the first character that has made me rethink this.
When I started Deception I believed this would complete what began in Deadline and Dominion and there’d be no more stories centered on Ollie. But once I got inside his head things slowly changed. I thought, I like this guy. I like his quirks, his sense of humor, the gruff exterior and the soft heart, the head-butting toughness and the vulnerability of a lifetime of hurts. So Ollie’s the first viewpoint character I’ve ever had who made me want to stay with him for another book or two.
I continue to think of more things Ollie could do and say. Therefore, Lord willing, there may well be one or more other Ollie stories to come in the future.
In this 3 minute video, I talk about my own similarities to Ollie:
