Readers' Responses to The Ishbane Conspiracy

The Ishbane ConspiracyThe Ishbane Conspiracy is a great book for Christian teenagers. The topics, though mature, are completely plausible. Your eyes will be opened to the different evils of the world as the characters experience them. The book is laden with common issues in the teen Christian walk along with helpful solutions. The lessons throughout the book are disguised in a rare style yet are rich with content and easy to discern. This book will truly make you think and look at the world through different perspectives. — Anonymous (Age 15)

Last week I encouraged a sweet 16-year-old girl I know to read The Ishbane Conspiracy, not having a clue what God would do.  In her words, "Half way through the book the light went on, and I realized that Jesus died for my sins!" She asked Jesus to be her Savior last Saturday and has made some radical changes in music and what she reads, and she wants to burn her tarot cards. Praise God for the exposed lies of the evil one in this book, and the truth of the Eternal One! — J. N.

I came to Christ just a few months ago through reading The Ishbane Conspiracy. After reading it, I felt very strongly about completely stopping watching anime, a kind of Japanese cartoons that are very sexual, and pro-magic. Before I came to Christ, fiction, fantasy, and anime were my life. I had a big bonfire and burnt all my anime posters, shirts, books, pins, tickets to conventions, and books. Thank God for Ishbane Conspiracy! —A.H.

I am a pastor and we recently purchased a quantity of The Ishbane Conspiracy books for our high school ministry. Our students absolutely love the book! So much so, in fact, that we’ve seen an actual 100% increase in our midweek gathering attendance as well as a greater willingness to participate in the discussions. I am so encouraged, thankful, and blessed. — M. S.

I have been in prison for about 6 weeks now. I am a new Christian, and I just finished reading your book The Ishbane Conspiracy. I wish I had read this book before I became a parent, my sons are 20, 18, and 12. I haven’t been a good dad, yet my boys still love me. I’m so grateful and really want to be a better person. I’ve made a commitment to myself and to God to live the rest of my life the best I can, and it seems to me that walking with Jesus is the best road. Since receiving Jesus I can’t get enough of reading and learning about life and how I should be living it! Your book touched me and my circumstances and I just wanted to say thanks.  — D. W.

I am 16 years old and just finished reading The Ishbane Conspiracy, and let me tell you, it has rocked me to my core. Things I always had a sense of knowing came to me, and my eyes were opened in many ways. My eyes are probably red and puffy, for the last 20 pages of the book I've cried nonstop. I just wanted to let you know that I love to write, and you have inspired me in Christian writing. — A. L. (Age 16)

A few years ago i was very depressed to the point I was considering suicide. But one day I picked up one of your books (The Ishbane Conspiracy) at the library and read it. It was the second most powerful book I have ever read next to the Bible itself. I had been a Christian for about 15 years, but had let the devil have a foothold in my life and rejected Jesus. What I read in that book that night changed my life forever, and I recommitted my life to Christ. I thank God for you and your books, and thank you and your daughters for helping me to overcome the greatest challenge that I have faced. — H. F.

I don't read much fiction, but the Ishbane Conspiracy is outstanding, and a must read for parents of teens. — T. M.

I am blind from a degenerative, hereditary eye disease. My daughter read to me Lord Foulgrin's Letters and The Ishbane Conspiracy. God used them to help me notice the Enemy's tactics in vivid ways. I credit these books with giving me the courage to share the gospel with my mother-in-law. She had said she was a Christian, but deep down I was sure she wasn't. I had been praying for an opportunity to share. She lives hundreds of miles away. One day, when I was on the phone with her, I decided to ask the question.
"Mom, I have a question I should have asked you long ago. Now, with your near death experience, I know I need to ask you." She gave me permission to ask. "If you were to die today, Mom, do you know for sure that you would go to heaven?" Her response was, "Honey, I have no idea. I've studied the Bible a lot, but I didn't feel smart enough to understand it."
I began to share the gospel. The phone connection got crackly and then went dead. Immediately I thought of your books. I called her back and she said, "That was weird." Soon she got a coughing spell. But I persevered, thinking all the time about your books' example. She listened to the end and said she had a lot to think about. Some time later when we talked on the phone again, she joyously said she had asked Jesus into her heart. She is a changed person and we will spend eternity in heaven with her. We are rejoicing and I just wanted to let you know how much your books helped me. — B. G.

This book about spiritual warfare looks at a year in the lives of four high school and college students and their families around them. It hits a wide variety of topics relevant to our culture— the philosophy of relativism, sex and abortion, eating disorders, suicide, school violence, witchcraft, and more. It is definitely not just a book for teenagers. I think the book is extremely valuable, written both as a fictional storyline as well as a glimpse of the “underworld” (a la Screwtape Letters). It gives us biblical insights about human nature, God’s designs, and eternity, this book is not only enjoyable, but instructive. I am happy to recommend it. — J. M.

The Ishbane Conspiracy is one of the best books I have read in a long time. As a youth director, I wish I could get all my youth and their parents to read it. Every parent of a child of any age should read it—so should anyone else for that matter. It made me think about things I had never thought of before. One of my youth whom I had recommended the book to called me and told me she could no longer watch her favorite TV show, because the book convicted her about what she put in her mind. Everyone I have loaned it to loves it” — L. F.

I have read your book The Ishbane Conspiracy. Oh, it was so wonderful! I can’t say what I meant, because I’m from Germany and this is my first year with English lessons. But this book was so great, that I need other books from you!
Through this book, I have learned, that I was Christian in my head, but not in my heart. After I read this, I prayed and I gave my life to Jesus once more. I cried and the Holy Spirit was with me. Sometimes when the devil comes and wants to hurt me, I read this book as a guidebook of God. And after this, I know, what He wants and I know He loves me. J. J. (Age 14)

Your book The Ishbane Conspiracy has been an incredible blessing and helped work a miracle.
I had ordered almost all of your books, I hadn’t yet read late last year and was working my way through them. I personally love Money, Possessions & Eternity.
One of my daughters (22 years old) was looking for a book to read and read Ishbane. It moved her much closer to the Lord in an amazing way and helped her to see stuff I had been trying to get her to see for years (having read most of Randy’s books)!
Then she gave it to my wife (whom I have been separated from for 51 weeks). After repeated adultery by her I had moved out. I was about to serve divorce papers.
The scales fell from her eyes like for Rob when he entered Heaven in the book! She humbled herself before the Lord and repented. She came to my church this Sunday (the first time she had attended church in years).
She is now saved and the Lord is calling us back together! He had kept me from finding anyone else during the last 12 months. Praise the Lord. His ways are mysterious but He has worked a miracle here—it will not be easy given the past—but I know He is already renewing us both and our relationship.
Thank you all so much for this book!  P. H., Australia

I recently read The Ishbane Conspiracy and found it very thought provoking. I have recommended it to my mother and to some of my family who are entering their teenage years.
I found many similarities between the character Rob and myself. I also pondered suicide in my late teens when one of the gang members I ran with was killed in a gang related fight. Looking back now almost ten years to that part of my life, I am now very aware of the unseen influence of a demonic presence that was influencing my thoughts.
I give thanks to God daily for the saving knowledge in Christ Jesus that I have now found.  J. P. (prison inmate)

I’m writing you from Iraq. I got both of your books, Lord Foulgrin’s Letters and The Ishbane Conspiracy. They really opened my eyes to the devil’s plan for us. Now I can see more clearly and share what I learn. It’s pretty hard over here. People are dying every day. It gets sad at times, but I keep praying, thanking God for my life.
I’m stationed in Baumholder, Germany. I have a church in K-town Germany and God has been moving greatly there. I’m glad to be a part of the kingdom of God. I want to minister to teens and share the good news with them.
Please pray for the soldiers over here. I’m ready to come home to my wife and five-year-old girl. Pray for them too.  Sgt. J., Iraq

I finished reading The Ishbane Conspiracy and just wanted to express my sincere gratitude to you all for creating such a book as this one. As I have never been disappointed by an Alcorn book to date, I knew that this one would also live up to my high expectations. However, I did not expect the path that reading this book would take me down.
As a former Young Life leader and a person who has worked with youth in the past, I feel like this book is essential to any and every youth leader. The perspective that the dark side has on the simplest of youth events, such as spending alone time in your room, is simply eerie and utterly scary. I’ve never thought about how Satan uses the daily routines and “culture” of the youth today to draw them closer to himself and away from the Lord. My brother is a youth pastor, and I definitely feel led to provide him with a copy of this book with the instructions to read immediately!
Not only do I appreciate the knowledge of the dark side’s strategies that I have gleaned from this book, but also the physical picture of Heaven that I continue to collect from other Alcorn books such as Edge of Eternity, Deadline, and Safely Home. I end each book with a new level of understanding of what I can expect in Heaven, and how I should live today in anticipation of eternity. Thank you for creating a piece such as this, for a time such as this. — V. K.

I had my two middle school age children read The Ishbane Conspiracy. The impact it has had on them spiritually is nothing short of miraculous. As a writing assignment for my daughter, I had her write a conclusion for the main characters. It was so touching. She got the message. I thank the Lord for using your gifts for His glory and helping me and my family get to know our Savior better. R. H.

I am fifteen years old and live in Bavaria (Germany) near Munich. I’ve got the translation of your book The Ishbane Conspiracy, in German Die Akte Jillian. I’m really very thrilled by this book, and I thank you for it very much.
Our teacher wanted us to present a book, and I immediately chose this one. I’m the only one in this class who loves Jesus and wants to follow him. With the help of the book I want to tell them something about Jesus. — T, German student

Any book can tell the story of four imperfect students. But this book is different.
Jillian may seem like a good Christian girl, but she’s struggling. Brittany may seem like just another of those pretty girls that got in with the wrong crowd, but she’s dissatisfied. Ian may seem content with his drinking, interest in witchcraft and girlfriends, but he’s afraid. And Rob may seem like a happy, moral guy, but he’s hiding something. Only God can help them. But this is Lord Foulgrin’s greatest fear.
Every other chapter is a letter from the correspondence of the Devil’s servants as they discuss how to ruin the four main characters. But through these letters clearly shine numerous messages to the readers. So while the evil tries in vain to destroy the good, readers are challenged to persevere for the good. To flee from evil. To see through deception. To comfort those who are struggling. To stand up to what is wrong. To encourage others to do right. To treasure God’s Word. To be continually praying and to understand the power of prayer. To value one’s family. To put others first. And to imitate Christ’s forgiveness.
It causes you to think of life through the eyes of God. It’s a glimpse of the big picture. And all the while, it’s one of those books you don’t want to put down. For teenagers or parents, this book is worth your time. All the way. — T. M.

The Ishbane Conspiracy is an eye-opening waltz through the lives of our teens. As a mother of a child this age, I was compelled to share it with my teenage daughter when I finished reading it. The Conspiracy kids were put in tough but realistic situations and then artfully brought through in a way that kept the reader at rapt attention and on the edge of their seats.
The Screwtape-type demon letters were placed perfectly and provided needed spiritual input. When my daughter finished the book, she was incredibly edified and, I believe, better off. She was much less likely to be deceived in this way by demonic advice.
So read it. If you like Peretti, you’ll like this too. — E. M.

The Ishbane Conspiracy is one of the best I’ve ever read. I recommend this book to parents. It is about teens, but not only for teens, as the message will speak to the parents as well.  The demons’ letters were disturbing, but I wouldn’t be a good mom if I wasn’t at least a little bothered by what is going on in the world and how it affects our children. Where else will you read anything else like this, that boldly takes on spiritual issues and the insight of demons? It is definitely a good read. — C.

Alcorn is a C. S. Lewis fan and it definitely reads in this book! It is a great book that will open your eyes to the spirit realm. It is a mix between Peretti’s This Present Darkness and Lewis’s Screwtape Letters. It does have scenes and topics that aren’t appropriate for younger audiences. I would love to see this one at the movies! — M. P.

Outstanding book that is similar to C. S. Lewis’ Screwtape Letters but set is in the modern times with situations that young people are likely to deal with in high school and college today. There are also adult characters—parents, youth leaders and pastors. It is applicable to readers of all ages. It helps to equip parents and youth workers as well as help older teens better understand spiritual warfare. It challenges us to become closer to the Lord, so we are able to withstand temptations and the fiery darts of the devil. A must read for all old and young! — R. H.

Love it, Love it, Love it....Great book and I love how Randy Alcorn has the demons banter back and forth. They don’t interrupt at all. I agree that every teenager and anyone involved with youth should read this book. Excellent read. — T. A.

It is very similar in writing style to the better known book by C. S. Lewis (The Screwtape Letters). I didn’t read the prequel to this book, but it stands alone. I’m impressed by the thoughts and images and the storyline. — K. J.
