On page 340 of Money, Possessions & Eternity you seem to be saying “give now.” When I was in Bible college some guys used that same logic to quit their training to go witness. For some of us, staying was the right thing to do. To send all students out of Bible college for current needs would not have provided for future needs. Isn’t there a time to forgo current needs to provide for future needs?
As Randy says in this chapter, God certainly leads His people to different decisions. God didn’t call all the students to leave and serve, He called some, and the others He called to stay and continue their education.
When it comes to our money and resources, what Randy is trying to communicate is to be open to the needs of the people today (the poor, the hungry and needy) and use the resources God has blessed us with to help best meet those needs. Is there a place for long term savings? Yes. As it says in Proverbs 21:20:
“In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has.”
