Note from Randy: I wrote this to the men in a study group I led, based on Dallas Willard’s book, Spirit of the Disciplines.

The place we’ll live forever will be where God comes down to dwell with us, on the New Earth (Revelation 21:1-3).

It’s really something you have to accept by faith, trusting that a measurable result will come, even if the book isn’t read by people for another two years.

When our daughters were considering a college, we told them, “Judge everything you hear by the Word of God, like the Bereans in Acts 17:11.”

I heard a pastor make a startling confession: “Whenever I think about heaven, it makes me depressed. I’d rather just cease to exist when I die.”

Choose your friends wisely. Don’t just let friendships happen by circumstance. Make them happen by choice—careful, thoughtful choice.

This world is the closest thing to heaven unbelievers will ever experience, and the closest thing to hell believers will ever know. 

If you are on the pill for medical reasons, then it would be wise to use a nonabortive type of birth control such as NFP, condom, and diaphragm (assuming you’re married?). But my understanding is that there are other medical concerns with the pill.

If someone has a dream or desire on this earth that is of God, that means there is nothing inherently evil or sinful about this desire. Then what would prevent him from seeing this desire fulfilled on the New Earth? Not lack of time or opportunity or capacity, certainly.
